This is an aquatic perennial, a type of japanese rush. Its narrow green and white striped foliage grows into clumps 25cm h x 15cm spread.
This is an attractive, dwarf rush-like plant with aromatic, gold and green variegated leaves. It is a semi-evergreen which associates well with other compact grasses to make outstanding winter and early spring displays. The colourful, iris-like foliage makes it ideal for the front of a damp sunny border or for incorporating into a bog garden. In early to mid-summer it bears small, sweetly fragrant flower spikes which give way to tiny, fleshy berries. It can be massed as a golden ground cover in small areas of water gardens, along streams or ponds or in moist open woodland gardens. Planting in a container is also feasible providing the soil is kept moist at all times. In fact, its size makes it especially suitable for miniature water features such as half barrels or large ceramic bowls filled with water.
